Wow, one of my co-workers spent a lot of time with his son’s baseball team at tournaments and it sounds very much like your experience – I wonder if you guys are from the same team? His last name is Bach. Luckily, I didn’t get stuck at the bridge accident, as I didn’t go to the beach this year. It was rather tragic, wasn’t it?

Congratulations to your son (and to you for surviving the stress!). You put the feelings of a little league Mom into words beautifully. Every time my son takes the mound, my heart stops for a moment. Not because he can’t do it or doesn’t love it more than anything in the world, but because it’s my baby up there.

My son is a pitcher also and is having a rough year. You stated what every mother of a pitcher feels as his or her daughter is on the mound. What a great feat! I’m glad I found your blog…we go to playoffs tonight and I know my son will be pitching. Here’s to some strikes!

Nice piece — love how it was a bigger deal for you, the Mom, than for the boy. But I bet it would become more amazing to him the older he gets (and the more he realizes how rare it is).
